There can be many reasons for infertility. It may be due to the problems in the female reproductive system or the male reproductive system. However, there are many cases in which no recognizable factor can be isolated for infertility. It is an infertility condition with unknown causes. According to IVF centre, the condition is identified when the doctors fail to recognize the causes of infertility, even after semen analysis of the male partner and assessment of the ovulation cycle and fallopian tubes in the female partner. In such a condition, the IVF doctor may be the person who can help you out.
In unexplained infertility, causes of infertility remain unknown as they are not possible to be detected by current methods. There could be many possible problems like the failure of the egg to be released at the right time for successful fertilization, failure of sperm to reach the egg, failure of the egg to enter the fallopian tube, failure of fertilization, failure of transportation of the zygote or failure to implant.
Having good egg quality has critical significance in the reproductive cycle. Women who opt for motherhood at an older age have low chances of having successful fertilization. There might be low maternal immune tolerance towards the embryo which hampers the woman in attaining pregnancy. However, there are many other factors that come from the male partner. Research suggests that modifications in sperm may also cause unexplained infertility. 25% of infertile couples in India have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility.
Such a case can be managed by using the techniques of oral ovarian stimulation with IUI, intracervical insemination (ICI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). Women who did not undergo any previous treatments had equal chances of live birth when they underwent ovarian stimulation along with IUI as IVF. Women who underwent previous treatment, are likely to have 2-3 times greater chances of live birth.
IVF involves the fertilisation of the egg and the sperm under lab conditions in a petri dish. The egg and the sperm are extracted from the female and the male partner respectively.
We can conclude that unexplained infertility depends on many factors, which primarily constitutes of the female’s age, nature of infertility (primary or secondary), duration of infertility, and the percentage in which the motile sperm is available. It also depends on the level of expertise the doctor being consulted has.
