Suffering From PCOS, Finding It Hard To Lose Weight? Find Out Why

What Makes PCOS Difficult To Lose Weight?

If you are suffering from PCOS or Polycystic Ovary syndrome, and finding it difficult to lose weight, you are not the only one, out there. There are many like you who have PCOS and are overweight. Many people would advise for losing weight, but only those who are going through this disorder know how difficult it is to lose weight for them. Below are mentioned some reasons which explain the facts in brief:

Your Body Is in Fat Storage Mode

Insulin is a hormone which shifts glucose from the bloodstream to the cells where it is used as energy. PCOS badly affects the body’s emission and use of insulin. The cells become unwilling to insulin signals and this engenders the pancreas to make more insulin. Large quantities of insulin promote storage or weight gain, which is most visible in waist and areas near the waist, and belly. In case you have a tendency to put on much weight, or cannot easily lose weight without transforming your diet, or exercise, then insulin could be the reason for the same.

        Hunger Pangs

High levels of insulin can be the reason why many women having PCOS experience hunger pangs. Strong, severe, urgent craving for food is seen to be present in women who face issues related to PCOS. If not taken care of earlier, then even the best eating habits lead to weight gain.

        Diminished Appetite-Regulating Hormones

The abnormal hormonal influence which regulates appetite and fullness can be another reason for weight gain and weight maintenance. Amount of appetite-regulating hormones have been shown to be decreasing in women having PCOS.

You Suffer From Awkward Sleep Apnea.

Women having PCOS are at a higher risk of awkward sleep apnea, as opposed to other women. The sleep disorder occurs when there is obstruction of upper airway causing lack of oxygen while sleeping. This results in daytime sleeping, blood pressure shooting up, along with weight gain.

The extra body weight is a contributing reason in sleep apnea, the high levels of male hormones are seen in women having PCOS, which is believed to play a role in affecting sleep receptors. Not sleeping is connected with insulin resistance along with weight gain.

        PCOS Treatment

The PCOS treatment is mainly centered towards hormones:

The doctor might advise you for having birth control pills for normalizing periods, a medicine known as metformin is given to prevent diabetes, medicines for treating hormonal related disorders are also prescribed. They help in boosting fertility and also medicines for improving hair growth are prescribed.

Taking care of oneself is also a part of the treatment process of PCOS. You must take out time for yourself, no matter how busy your schedule might be.

Exercise Is Also An Important Part Of Treating PCOS.

So now in case you notice anything unusual in your body please do not leave it unnoticed, show it to a doctor, for getting treated, ASAP
