Relation Between Cervical Mucus and Ovulation (Pregnancy)

Relation Between Cervical Mucus and Ovulation (Pregnancy)

by adminon 3 February 2019in male infertility

Quick Enquiry

Giving birth to a child is undoubtedly a being feeling. While a woman may encounter certain issues during pregnancy, she absolutely forgets everything when she has finally delivered the child. Also, there are many couples and women trying to get pregnant but they are failing consistently. There are many infertility treatments available for them.

What is cervical mucus?

When a couple or a woman visits a doctor or clinic, there may be certain questions which are raised about cervical mucus. There s presence of glands inside and surround the cervix of the woman’s uterus which releases a fluid known as cervical mucus. The amount of release of cervical mucus and its consistency varies with alterations in hormones of the woman. The cervical mucus is engaged in the following two functions:

  1. It prevents any foreign particles from entering the uterus.
  2. It nourishes and assists the movement of sperms to the uterus.

What can be estimated about ovulation from cervical mucus?

The cervical mucus undergoes various changes according to different ovulation cycles.

  • When there is no ovulation, the cervical mucus is dry or sticky.
  • When the ovulation may be approaching, the cervical mucus starts turning creamy.
  • When the ovulation is quite near, the cervical mucus becomes wet and watery.
  • During ovulation, the cervical mucus turns very wet, stretchy and looks much like an egg white.

The absolute approaching of ovulation is characterized by wet and raw egg white stage of cervical mucus. This is the right time for the couple to engage in intercourse if they are planning a child.

Tips to check cervical mucus

The cervical mucus can be checked by the following tips:

  1. The woman needs to wash and dry her hands first.
  2. Then she can identify a comfortable position so that her finger can be inserted into the vagina easily.
  3. After this, the middle or index finger can be inserted into the vagina. The finger need not go inside much as the mucus reaches the finger quite early.
  4. In the last step, she needs to remove her finger and observe the thickness of cervical mucus. This is done by joining the thumb to the finger that has cervical mucus and then detaching it slowly.
  • if the mucus is sticky, the chances are that woman is not pregnant
  • if the fluid is creamy, the ovulation may be near but has not approached
  • if the fluid is wet, watery, and slightly stretchy, it is the time for the couple to engage in intercourse for having the child.
  • If the fluid is very wet, stretches for about an inch between the thumb and finger, and looks more or less like a raw egg white, it is the best time to get fertile.

Overall, there is a direct relationship between cervical mucus and ovulation. The amount and quality of cervical mucus is a clear indication of the ovulation cycle of the woman with the help of which, she can identify the right time to get pregnant.
