Obesity Affecting Male Infertility

Obesity Affecting Male Infertility

by adminon 1 October 2019in male infertility

Quick Enquiry

Obesity has become an issue on a global level. The phenomena have risen greatly. A large percentage of the population is struggling with obesity. The global health issue has cast its effect on the wellbeing of the existing generations by increasing their chances of developing lifestyle diseases. However, that is not the only side effect of obesity. It is wreaking havoc with the reproductive health of both men and women. It has negatively impacted the health of both the males and females. According to various studies conducted, it has been found that obesity has detrimental effects on the fertility of humans. In this post, we intend to throw light on the connection between male reproductive health and obesity. Male infertility can lead to the requirement of IVF. According to IVF doctor, the treatment for infertility is available for such couples. Such couples can benefit from ICSI  treatment.

  1. The relation between sperm and obesity

Obesity has been found to negatively influence sperm quality. According to research, obesity is directly responsible for DNA damage and change in the molecular and physiological framework of the testes and sperm. Due to these changes, the offspring can suffer genetic anomalies.

  1. Obesity and health of the offspring

We have already discussed that obesity hurts sperm quality. It is also worth mentioning that the obesity traits can be transferred from the parents to the offspring along with the problems. It could lead to several lifestyle diseases like diabetes and cardiac problems.

  1. Obesity’s influence on fertilization

Female obesity results in a change in the structure of oocyte which leads to a negative impact on embryo development. It also leads to a decreased chance of establishment of pregnancy, more so in IVF.

  1. Effect of Obesity on DNA integrity

Successful fertilization requires high integrity of the sperm DNA as it is crucial for the embryo development. Obesity leads to poor DNA integrity of the sperm which leads to poor chances of conception in his female partner. The result is obviously poor fertility.

What to do about it?

Both men and women should consider the problem of obesity seriously. They have to work out a solution for their infertility. The modern lifestyle which is full of mental stress and devoid of physical activity has tipped the scales of our health, balance, and fertility. The effect can be seen in the form of decreased chances of conception. The treatment offered by the medical facilities has revolutionized the way the infertile couples are treated. Still, we need to fight obesity for ensuring our wellbeing and having a disease-free status in the later years of our life.
