Infertility Treatments Available For Women With PCOS

by adminon 27 March 2019in infertility, PCOS

PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is one of the most common causes of infertility and there are more than ten million women who are affected by this issue. This problem arises when the menstrual cycle is affected because of the high level of androgen and insulin. Additionally, this also creates a problem in ovulation and the eggs are not released on a regular basis. If the ovulation stop or it is not regular it can create more problem for women to conceive naturally and some women are at high risk of miscarriage.

In some cases, women with PCOS can get pregnant but it takes longer to conceive naturally. But thanks to advancement in technology and medical science, PCOS treatment is available and some of them are given below.

      Clomid Treatment

The women who are diagnosed with PCOS are mostly prescribed Clomid as you can say that it is best for infertility treatment. In most cases, women are able to get pregnant with Clomid treatment. You should consult the doctor which treatment option will be better for you to conceive.

      Letrozole Treatment

It is also known by its brand name ‘Femara’. Basically, this is not a fertility drug but it is frequently prescribed to patients with PCOS. Some studies have shown that it is more effective than other options as it helps in stimulating ovulation in women. Additionally, this drug is prescribed to a cancer patient. But research has shown that this has helped the women to conceive.

      Gonadotropins Treatment

In case, if other options don’t work then injectable fertility drug is given to the patients. This injection contains different hormones such as FSH, LH, or a combination of the two. Sometimes the doctor suggests the combination of oral and injectable fertility drug. Additionally, this treatment is combined with IUI (intrauterine insemination). In this procedure, the semen is washed and it placed directly into the uterus. One of the risks with gonadotropins treatment is ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome (OHSS), this means the ovaries react to the fertility medications in the wrong way. In that case, the doctor will lower the dose of injections to control the problem.

      IVF (In-Vitro-Fertilization)

For some patients, when other treatment does not give effective results than the next step is IVF. In this process, fertility drug is given to stimulate the production of eggs from the ovaries. Then the eggs are retrieved and they are placed with the sperm for fertilization. Once the eggs are fertilized they are placed into the uterus and this process is known as embryo transfer. During the entire process, the doctor will examine you to see how well your body is responding to the treatment.

      IVM (In-Vitro-Maturation)

In this, the patient is given a very low dose of fertility drug. After that, the doctor retrieves the immature egg from the ovaries and then they are matured in the lab. You should consult the fertility doctor regarding different treatment options.
