Symptoms of low Testosterone in Men

Symptoms of low Testosterone in Men

by adminon 23 July 2019in infertility, Low Sperm Count

Men produce the highest levels of testosterone at the age of 30. Thereafter the levels start diminishing. In some men, the symptoms of low testosterone levels might never show. Neither do they feel the side effects of the plunging levels. However, in some cases, men might show many symptoms but are not able to associate it with low testosterone levels. Testosterone is closely associated with male infertility. Low production may mean opting for infertility treatment. You and partner could also opt for IVF if you experience low testosterone production.

How does low Testosterone show?

You might experience some symptoms which point towards   Testosterone levels-

  1. Fatigue all the time :

Although feeling tired all the time may be due to aging and stress, it might also be due to low testosterone secretion by your body.

  1. Low libido:

Testosterone is closely related to your libido so less testosterone means low libido. If you don’t feel like getting intimate with your partner without any apparent reason, then it may be a warning about low testosterone levels.

  1. Erectile Dysfunction:

Your ability to get an erection and sustain it suffers a lot with low production of testosterone. One school of thought believes this is a natural process. The body perceives that since the levels are low, the man will not be involved in producing children. The body thus switches off the production of the hormone.

  1. Depression and stress:

People with low testosterone are likely to be stressed out and depressed, not only because they are not interested in intimacy. It might be due to the mood swings they experience as is seen in menopausal women who have low estrogen levels.

  1. Unexplained Weight Gain:

Testosterone performs a significant role in the metabolic rate. As the levels drop, you may experience increased fat storage in the body accompanied by weight gain. The doctor may advise you to opt for lifestyle changes like a workout schedule and changes in your diet.

  1. Low Strength:

Testosterone influences the growth and strength of the body. It leads to less muscle and loss of strength. It might not be a reason big enough to put you on testosterone replacement therapy though.

  1. Hot Flashes:

You might have associated this symptom only with women. Actually, men too experience it. Men also go through hot flashes when their testosterone levels fall. They are generally cured by using hormone replacement therapy.

The symptoms stated above point to a condition usually known as andropause or male menopause. It’s a normal phenomenon and one doesn’t have to suffer due to low testosterone levels. Treatment is readily available for such problems. Approach a doctor if you feel that you are also suffering from low testosterone levels.

Treatment options when Sperm Count is low

Treatment options when Sperm Count is low

by adminon 19 July 2019in Low Sperm Count

A low sperm count is one of the main reasons for failure to become a father. While it is a common condition, it doesn’t mean that you can’t become a father. With various treatments available for the condition, you can get rid of your fears of infertility.

The condition may be caused due to many factors, like failure to produce sports, some kind of blockage in the release of the sperms, environmental factors or imbalance in the hormones. If you want to avail a low sperm treatment, then you will have to approach an infertility clinic. Nil sperm treatment is readily available at many clinics in India. There are various ways in which you can get yourself treated-

  1. Surgical treatment

If you are having trouble transferring the sperm to the ejaculate, it could be due to the problem of varicocele. It refers to the swelling of the vein which transfers the sperm to the testicles. There might be a problem with your vas deferens. The problem can be treated with surgery.

  1. Effect of Infection

The low sperm count could be due to an infection. Effective treatment of the infection can be done through various medical procedures.

  1. Hormone Therapy

Your sperm count may be low due to less secretion of hormones. Medicines and hormone injections can be helping in increasing the sperm count. It may require a long time to show the results.

  1. Surgical extraction

If you have a low sperm count, your sperm may be extracted surgically for using in IVF procedure or ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection). At the IVF centre, the sperm is used to fertilize the egg after extraction. The egg is also extracted from the woman’s body for the process of fertilization which takes place in the lab. In case ICSI is being conducted, the sperm is directly injected into the female partner.  In either case, the sperm will either be extracted from the ejaculate or obtained through surgical extraction.

  1. Lubrication? No dear

Using lubricants might be good for your love life but certainly not for successful conception. Certain lubricants restrict the movement of the sperm and the chances of conception might be greatly reduced if you have a low sperm count.

  1. Timing is crucial

If your partner has worked out her most fertile window according to her ovulation cycle, having sex daily in the most fertile period will increase the chances of conception. But be careful, doing so for more than 3-4 days can have quite the opposite effect.

A low sperm count is certainly not the end of the road. You can work out the options with the help of your doctor.

Azoospermia - Semen Without Sperm copy

Azoospermia – Semen Without Sperm? Causes and Treatment

by adminon 15 July 2019in Low Sperm Count

Many men are stuck with a condition which causes them to produce semen without sperm. It might go unnoticed till the man tries to impregnate his female partner and fails to do so. The condition causes infertility in 15 % of men. According to the IVF centre the condition is one of the leading causes of infertility. No Sperm Treatment should be carried out at the earliest to prevent problems in the future. Many techniques are available for low sperm count treatment.

Causes of Azoospermia

There are many causes of Azoospermia. For knowing the detailed causes, first, we need to understand the types of Azoospermia. There are mainly three types of Azoospermia:-

Pretesticular azoospermia: It refers to the condition in which the testicles are normal but the manufacturing of sperm is not taking place as the hormone levels are low. It might also be happening due to the effect of chemotherapy.

Testicular azoospermia: It refers to the condition of no production of sperms due to injury to the testicles. Damage to the testicles can harm the production of sperms. It might be due to infection in the reproductive tract. The condition of cancer and its treatment can also be a   cause. Genetic conditions like Klinefelter’s syndrome may also contribute. A Groin injury in the past may also be one of the reasons.

Post-testicular azoospermia: This condition occurs when testicles make normal sperm but they are prevented from getting out due to certain obstructions. Vasectomy is one of the leading causes.  Another condition called Retrograde ejaculation is also a factor which could contribute to the condition. It is a condition in which the semen retrogrades into the bladder instead of getting ejaculated out of penis. 40 percent of men suffer from this condition.

Determination of Azoospermia

The condition might not be evident until you try to impregnate your partner. If you want to find out if you are suffering from the condition, then you will have to get the semen sample tested.

A complete physical exam is also carried out by the doctor to ascertain if you have the condition.

Certain blood tests and hormonal level tests will also be carried out to determine your hormonal levels.

Treatment of Azoospermia

In the case of the obstructive type, surgery is the best option. It will yield better results if the blockage is relatively recent.

In the case of non-obstructive azoospermia, Sperm retrieval may work if the person does not want to undergo surgery.

This is done by using a needle to withdraw sperm from the testicles. The sperm can be frozen for later use in IVF technique.

What is the best option?

We are not saying that cycling should be completely avoided. You must take precaution while you are trying to conceive so that it won’t result in any negative effect on the body. Treatment Options Available for Low Sperm Count

by adminon 16 April 2019in Low Sperm Count

Male infertility has a number of causes which can affect the couple chances to conceive naturally. One of the reason is low sperm count which eventually decreases male infertility. Sometimes, it can also affect the sperm quality and motility (movement) of the sperm.

If you are facing problem then you should not worry as male infertility treatment is available which can help you to get rid of this condition.

  • IVF (In-Vitro-Fertilization)

IVF is one of the most used methods for Low sperm count treatment. During the treatment, the women are given a fertility drug so that her ovaries can produce a number of eggs. Once the eggs are matured enough, they will be taken out from the ovaries for further process. After that, the sperm and egg are kept together so that they can get fertilized. Once the embryo is formed they will be transferred back to the woman’s reproductive tract.

  • ICSI (Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection)

This method is another popular option which is used to treat male infertility. Moreover, it is also used in combination with IVF to have more effective results. In this procedure, a single sperm is taken and it is kept with them so that it can get fertilized. This process is known as cytoplasm. That sperm is collected which is moving properly as well as its shape is best and they are collected by using a  glass pipette (very thin tube). Once the embryo is formed they will be transferred back to the woman’s uterus.

  • IUI (Intrauterine insemination)

IUI is another option which can help to treat the issue of low sperm count. During the treatment, sperm is washed and it is inserted into the woman’s womb. Throughout the entire procedure, the doctor will examine your health to check how well you are responding to the treatment. If ovulation is required to be stimulated than it can be done with an injection of human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG) so that eggs can be released. In this, no collection is involved and this method is fairly easy and does not involve any kind of pain.

  • Sperm donation

In some cases, IVF is used with sperm donation when the sperm count is really low. This method has really helped many couples to conceive on time and become parents.

  • Surgery

In some cases, surgery can also help to retrieve the sperm. Sometimes, surgery can help to correct the varicocele or if the vas deferens needs to be repaired. If during ejaculation, no sperm is present then they will be retrieved from the testicles by using the sperm-retrieval techniques.

You should consult the doctor if you are facing a problem as they can guide you better which method will suit you best by examining your health.

Oligospermia – Causes and Treatments Available

by adminon 5 March 2019in Low Sperm Count, male infertility

Often it is thought that the issue of infertility is only related to women. But this is not the case, there are many factors that affect the couple to conceive because of male infertility. According to current studies, it has shown that around 40% of this problem arises due to male infertility. One of the most common factors which give rise to the issue is Oligospermia. However, you can get the infertility treatment and get rid of this problem.

What is Oligospermia?

Oligospermia is characterized by a low sperm count. It means the fluid which is ejaculated during an orgasm contains very less sperm. If the sperm count is completely absent then it is called azoospermia. If your sperm count is 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen than it is considered very low. This decrease the chances of fertilizing the egg which affects the pregnancy.

Causes of Oligospermia

  • Physical causes

One of the reason is swelling of the veins which drains the testicles. Due to this, the sperm count is reduced which results in the problem of infertility in the male. There are other factors which also contribute to this issue such as infection which might affect the health of the sperm. Another reason can be scarring which results in blocking the passage of the sperm.

  • Medications

If you taking certain medications such as steroids, antibiotics and you are undergoing the treatment of cancer then it can also affect the quality and quantity of sperm.

  • Chromosome disorder

A Genetic disorder such as Klinefelter’s syndrome can also affect the male reproductive organs. There are other issues also such as cystic fibrosis, Kartagener’s syndrome, and Kallmann’s syndrome.

  • Environmental factors

Overexposure to heavy metals or chemicals such as radiation exposure or X-rays can damage the quality and quantity of sperm. If you are involved in a physical activity such as bike riding or driving then it can also create a problem.

Treatment of Oligospermia

  • Treating Infection

The doctor can prescribe some medications to cure an infection. But it will not restore your fertility.

  • Surgery

A varicocele can be repaired or corrected with surgery. In case if there is zero sperm count then sperm can be retrieved from the testicles bu using the sperm retrieval techniques.

  • Treatment for sexual intercourse problem

The issue of erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation can be improved by medication.

  • Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART)

To solve the problem the treatment of IVF can be used. In most cases, it is combined with IUI for effective results. With the help of these methods, sperm is directly inserted into the women’s ovaries so that it can fertilize the egg.
